The Boston Americans won baseball's first World Series in 1903. The American League Champions won the last four games of the series to defeat the National League's Pittsburgh Pirates five games to three.
Pittsburgh's Exposition Park and Boston's Huntington Avenue Grounds each hosted four games of the series, played from October 1 to October 13. The Pirates were managed by Fred Clarke, while the Americans were managed by Jimmy Collins; both were players on their respective teams who would eventually be elected into the Hall of Fame. The series featured two of the greatest players of the era: shortstop Honus Wagner of the Pirates and pitcher Cy Young of the Americans.
