Where does the word "Kickapoo" come from?

The word "Kickapoo" comes from a Shawnee word for "wanderer." Kickapoo is the name of a Native American tribe and the language used by that tribe.

The Kickapoo tribe originated in modern-day Michigan and Ohio; however, after being driven from that area by British and American settlers, they settled in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Mexico.

As of 2015, there are four Kickapoo tribes remaining. In the United States, the Kickapoo tribe lives on reservations. The Kickapoo language is still the primary language spoken within these reservations. Within the Mexican Kickapoo tribe, the Kickapoo language, which is spelled Kikapu in Mexico, is the only language used.
