The first MP3 player, MPMan F10, was invented in 1998. It was made by a Korean company, Saehan Information Systems, and officially launched in March 1998.
Measuring around 91 mm by 70 mm by 165.5 mm, MPMan F10 had a flash storage capacity of 32 MB. This was sufficient for songs that were encoded at 128 Kb/s. It had a tiny LCD on its front to show what songs were played.
The PMP300, which is mistakenly identified by some as the first MP3 player, was only invented after MPMan F10. It was released by Diamond Multimedia Rio. The person who was instrumental in inventing the MP3 format is Karlheinz Brandenburg.
