An MP3 player contains a number of critical components, and a single failure can cause it to stop functioning. According to Sony, The best way to test an MP3 player to see if it still works is to charge it.
If the failure is due to a faulty charging cable, users can simply use a different one. If the device still will not turn on, the problem likely lies with the power supply, battery or an internal chip. If the device warms up but the screen will not come on, the screen may be faulty. Devices that turn on but do not play music are likely affected by a sound chip or port that has ceased working correctly.
