What is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy?

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a set of prayers recited using the rosary beads. It includes an opening prayer, a closing prayer and many familiar Catholic prayers, such as the Hail Mary and the Our Father.

In the 1930s, a Polish nun known as St. Faustina Kowalska recorded the Chaplet of Divine Mercy after receiving visions from Jesus Christ while she settled in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Church encourages intercessors to pray the Chaplet most especially for the dying and the sick, for it is said that it appeases the just anger of the Holy Trinity. However, the Chaplet is not restricted to specific kinds of intentions or petitions and many people simply recite it as a novena.
