Dr. Charles Stanley divorced from his wife Anna Stanley in 2000. The final divorce decree was signed by an Atlanta judge on May 11, 2000. According to CNN, it was Anna Stanley who filed for the divorce in June 1993.

Dr. Charles Stanley is the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a New York Times best-selling author and the founder of In Touch Ministries. The divorce caused tension in the church, as divorce is considered a sin, and divorced men were not allowed to serve as deacons or ministers, states Baptist Press. The First Baptist Church eventually chose to retain Dr. Charles Stanley as its pastor.
