As of October 2014, the United States Census Bureau estimates that there are approximately 319,166,000 people living in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. This calculation is based on the most recent census data and national population projections.
The U.S. population is growing at a rate of one person every 15 seconds. This takes into account one birth every eight seconds, one death every 13 seconds and one international migrant every 40 seconds. Not counted are members of the Armed Forces serving overseas, their dependents or other U.S. citizens that live outside the United States. Only two countries have higher populations than the United States: China and India.
