"WPS" stands for "Wi-Fi Protected Setup." It was created by the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2006 as a means for those who know little about computers or networking to easily create and access a wireless network.
The two most popular methods of accessing a Wi-Fi network with WPS are the push-button method and the pin method. With the push-button method, the user presses a button on the wireless router, which automatically connects the device to the network. The pin method requires a code, usually located on a sticker on the router. Because a major security flaw utilizing the pin method was discovered in December 2011, the Wi-Fi Alliance strongly suggests disabling this feature.
