Singer-songwriter The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Nash, wrote the Beyoncé song, "Single Ladies." According to The-Dream, Beyoncé's then-secret marriage to Jay-Z inspired the lyrics to the song, as well as the fact that she was not wearing a ring during the initial recording session.
The song "Single Ladies" won three awards at the 2009 MTV Music Video Awards, including Video of the Year, Best Editing and Best Choreography. The song's initial release was on Oct. 13, 2008, and it eventually received certification as a quadruple-platinum single. Prior to writing "Single Ladies," The-Dream wrote the lyrics for Rihanna's Grammy-winning song, "Umbrella."
