There are two varieties of Xoloitzcuintli: one with a coat and one that is hairless. Xoloitzcuintli breeders may breed just one size or variety of the dog, or they may breed all Xoloitzcuintli sizes and varieties. Xoloitzcuintli are bred in three sizes: standard, miniature and toy. The coated variety's coat is short and flat, and the hairless variety has tough, shielding skin. The Xoloitzcuintli first came to the Americas with migrants who crossed over the Bering Strait.
