What are fox breeders?

Fox breeders breed foxes for the pet and fur trade. Some people enjoy keeping exotic animals such as foxes as pets. Foxes that are bred and kept as pets include fennec foxes, red foxes (which come in a variety of colors) and the domesticated silver fox.

Domesticated silver foxes are a by-product of a large ongoing research project in Russia. Researchers have selectively bred foxes for tameness for years, but due to funding cutbacks are now selling some of their foxes as pets.

All other foxes are captive wild animals, and according to experts, do not make good pets. It may be illegal in some places to keep foxes as pets, so check local laws.
