What year did Apple introduce the Macintosh computer?

The Apple Macintosh computer was first launched in 1984. It was not the first computer launched by the company, however. That honor goes to the Apple 1, which was released in 1976.

Here are some of the key developments in the history of computers from Apple since its founding in 1976:

• Apple I - a kit computer from Apple that sold 200 units
• Apple II - introduced in 1977 with a redesigned TV interface
• Apple III - a computer designed for business use that was released in 1980
• Apple Macintosh - launched on January 24, 1984. It was the first computer targeted at consumers that was controlled with a graphical interface rather than a command line prompt. One of the things that the launch of the Macintosh is remembered for is a Super Bowl commercial that was directed by Ridley Scott.
• iMac - the iMac was introduced in 1998. It appealed to users because of its design, which broke from the norms of traditional computer boxes, monitors and peripherals. The iMac even came in different colors. It was also unique because of its all-in-one design.
• Power Mac - introduced in 1999.
• MacBook - a range of laptops first released in 2006

Apple also makes other devices including the iPod (released in 2001), the iPhone (released in 2007) and the iPad (released in 2010).
