The French Revolution began in 1789 and lasted until Nov. 9, 1799. During this period in history, the citizens of France revolted against an absolute monarchy and redesigned the political structure of the country.
Inspired by the American Revolution, the French sought the concepts of inalienable rights and popular sovereignty. While the French Revolution resulted in much chaos and death, it did not manage to accomplish all of the goals of the people. It did, however, play a major role in later world politics by showing what the will of the people can accomplish. The French Revolution ended with Napoleon Bonaparte's ascension to power.
