According to weather data collected from 1981 to 2010, total snowfall accumulation in the United States amounts to about 542.7 inches, or about 13.78 meters, per year. Because of the ranging climate of the United States, different parts of the country accumulate different amounts of snow.

For the most part, northern states see more snowfall than southern states because of their proximity to the equator. Southern states like Florida, Arizona and Louisiana, as well as the island-state of Hawaii, typically see very little to no snowfall in a given year. Northern states like Alaska, Maine and Michigan average over 50 inches, or 1.27 meters, of snow per year.
