Zinc is an element with the atomic number of 30. An element is a pure chemical substance that consists of only one species of atom and nothing else. Since zinc is a pure element, it is made up of only zinc atoms and no other compounds.
Pure substances, like elements, are different from mixture substances because there is only one type of molecule present inside of them. Examples of mixtures are milk, wood, plastic and brass. Examples of pure substances are copper, table salt, distilled water and iron. Mixtures are created by combining two or more pure substances, but pure substances cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
