The 1497 sailing date is in question because the only record of the voyage is a letter written under Vespucci's name, and the letter has never been proven authentic. Vespucci explored the coast of Brazil in 1499 and made subsequent voyages to South America in 1501 and 1503, returning to Portugal in 1504. It is possible that Vespucci made later voyages, but records are not definitive.

Modern inks contain additives such as drying agents, surfactants, waxes and lubricants to aid printing and impart any desired special characteristics. Pigmented-based inks that contain solid pigment particles are rarely used, because unlike dye-based inks, they clog the narrow passageways of pens.
