A 1974 half dollar is a 50-cent coin featuring the face of President John F. Kennedy on it. The coin was originally released in 1964 after Kennedy’s assassination.
The 1974 half dollar was designed by Gilroy Roberts, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint at the time. Its production was initiated with the help of Congress and the director of the U.S. Mint, Eva Adams. This 1974 version is composed of copper and nickel instead of the silver used in earlier versions of the coin. On the reverse side of the coin is the presidential seal designed by Assistant Engraver Frank Gasparro.
