What is 4C hair?

Type 4c hair is defined as tightly curled hair in a pattern. The curls usually won't clump unless there is a specific type of hairstyle applied.

Similar to 4b, 4c hair is more of a challenge to maintain. 4c hair can shrink up to 75 percent and lose the appearance of definition.

In general, type 4 hair needs to be well cared for by using creams, oils and butters. To elongate the curls of 4c hair, it is important to deep condition every three days with products such as heavy pudding and special creams. Tightly curled hair leads to more dryness and lack of luster and shine. This occurs because the curls are so tight that the hair's natural oils struggle to move down the strands.
