Is a 70-inch TV actually 70 inches wide?

A 70-inch television is not 70 inches wide, as the measurement of a television screen is done diagonally, not horizontally. Newer wide screen televisions are not the same dimensions as an older television, which may have been taller than it was wide.

When measuring the size of a television screen, it should be done from the top left corner of the screen to the bottom right corner of the screen. This measurement should not include the bezel, or frame, of the television.

Before purchasing a 70-inch television, it is advised to properly measure the space where the television will be. The screen size compared to the room size should also be taken into consideration.
