What is the ACT test?

The ACT test is a standardized test accepted by colleges and universities to determine if students have the knowledge level for entrance into a higher education institution. The ACT tests students on science, mathematics, English and reading. "ACT" stands for "American College Testing."

When taking the ACT, students are presented with 215 multiple-choice questions, and they are given 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete the exam, as of 2014. An optional ACT Plus Writing exam requires an additional 30 minutes. Students must register in advance to take the ACT on the American College Testing website, pay the testing fee, and locate a nearby testing site.
