Is the African spotted wolf spider real?

The African spotted wolf spider is not real. It is a fictional spider created for a novel by Frank Peretti. In his novel, "Hangman's Curse," there is a spider that is a mixed breed of African spotted wolf spider and the brown recluse.

Wolf spiders are large and hairy and move very quickly. Although they are venomous, they are not deadly. Wolf spiders do not bite typically unless they are threatened or hurt. Members of this species are active primarily during the night, when they hunt for other spiders or various insects on which to feed. The largest recorded species of wolf spiders as of 2014 is the Carolina wolf spider.
