Wolf spiders are poisonous, but their venom is not lethal. They usually bite a person, when they are provoked, and the bite is usually painful.
When threatened or provoked, wolf spiders retreat and expose their large fangs as a sign that they are irritated. They tend to move, fast when disturbed. When bitten by a wolf spider, a person should place ice on the area to allow the swelling to go down. A child or an elderly person should seek immediate medical attention, if bitten by the spider. It is also advisable to sit still and avoid movement, after the bite.
