Is a hobo spider bite dangerous?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously classified the hobo spider as a venomous spider. However, more recent studies demonstrate that hobo spider bites are not as dangerous as previously thought.

Previously, spider bite victims claimed that bites from hobo spiders caused dermonecrosis – the death of skin cells and tissues. However, Discovery News published a study conducted by Richard Vetter, an arachnologist at the University of California, Riverside, which indicated that hobo spider bites do not cause dermonecrosis. The study also revealed that hobo spiders are not frequent biters and that humans are rarely bitten by hobo spiders.
