What does the Aldrete scale measure?

In anesthesiology, the Aldrete score, also known as the Aldrete post-anesthesia recovery score or APARS, is used to measure the recovery of a patient after general anesthesia. It serves as a criteria for determining whether a patient can be safely discharged following surgery or sedation.

The Aldrete score gauges a patient's responsiveness (whether he is fully awake), breathing (whether he is able to cough and breathe deeply and freely), and color (whether the skin has a normal pallor). It also measures circulation (whether blood pressure is stable and normal) and activity (whether he is able to move all four limbs on his own).
