Where is the Amazon located?

The Amazon River basin covers parts of Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela, totalling about 40 percent of South America. The Amazon River itself runs west to east from Iquitos in Peru, across Brazil and to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Amazon Rainforest in the Amazon River Basin is the largest tropical rainforest in the world, accounting for over half of the world's remaining rainforests as of 2014. However, it is threatened by deforestation. Sixty percent of the forest is located in Brazil, 13 percent in Peru, 10 percent in Colombia and smaller amounts in Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.
