The Anatolian mastiff, also called the American mastiff, is an unrecognized dog breed that's a mix of Anatolian shepherd and mastiff. Hailing from Anatolia, the Anatolian shepherd is a working dog. It serves as a loyal guard dog, protecting livestock and property. It can sometimes be possessive and stubborn.
The mastiff is a very large and gentle dog, reaching weights of up to 250 pounds. Considered the largest breed in terms of mass, the English mastiff is intelligent, docile, calm, even-tempered and self-confident. As a mixed breed, the Anatolian mastiff may display the temperaments and tendencies of both breeds. It is a large dog that needs stern leadership.
