What is an Android hotspot?

The phrase "Android hot spot" refers to a Wi-Fi hot spot created by a smartphone device that runs an Android operating system. This allows the user to create a hot spot in a location where there is no Wi-Fi Internet access by using the 3G functionality of his smartphone.
The process of creating a Wi-Fi hot spot via 3G is called tethering. As of 2014, for devices that use Android version 2.2 or higher, this functionality is built-in. For older versions, a user has to download an application such as PDANET or EasyTether. Setting up a Wi-Fi hot spot is done through the menu of an Android device by ticking the box next to the "Portable Wi-Fi hot spot" option.
