Angkor Wat is located in Angkor, a heavily forested area in the northern Siem Reap province of the Cambodian jungle. Angkor is a sprawling complex of religious shrines, named as one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites in 1992.
The ancient Khmer Kingdom established its capitals in Angkor and built numerous temples across the region. The most renowned among these revered sites is Angkor Wat. It was constructed during the reign of King Suryavarman II and was dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. Some of the other temples in Angkor include the Bayon, Ta Prohm and Preah Khan. Angkor Wat remains as one of the most enduring architectural feats in Southeast Asia.
