What is the Arctic wolf's role in the food chain?
By Forinfos - 21/03/2025 - 0 comments
The Arctic wolf is a tertiary consumer, meaning it is at the top of the food chain. It shares its top position with the hawk and the polar bear.
In the Arctic, as well as everywhere else, the plants of the area are the producers. Producers make food for themselves and other plant-eating creatures and are sometimes referred to as autotrophs. Herbivores eat the plants and are known as the primary consumers. Herbivores in the Arctic include the lemming and caribou. Then, tertiary or secondary consumers like the Arctic wolf eat the herbivores. Animals that cannot produce their own food are called heterotrophs.
