The three people who were convicted in the assassination of Malcolm X were Thomas Hagan, Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Kahlil Islam. Hagan is the only one who has admitted to killing Malcolm X. Aziz and Islam have maintained their innocence, and Hagan has said they were not involved.
Malcolm X was assassinated on Feb. 21, 1965, at New York's Audubon Ballroom. While Malcolm X was preparing to address the Organization of Afro-American Unity, a man rushed the stage and shot him in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun. Two other men then ran toward the stage and fired several shots with semi-automatic handguns. The autopsy revealed that Malcolm X suffered 21 gunshot wounds.
