Though bronchitis itself is contagious, asthmatic bronchitis is not contagious, states WebMD. Some triggers of this condition include chemicals, pollution, tobacco smoke, allergens, and certain medications, such as beta-blockers and aspirin.
Acute bronchitis causes inflammation in the airways, and it results from a bacterial inflammation, explains WebMD. Asthma is a condition that tightens the muscles around the airways, narrowing the airways. When these conditions occur at the same time, they lead to asthmatic bronchitis. The symptoms are a mix of asthma and bronchitis symptoms, including cough chest tightness, wheezing, breath shortness and excess mucus. Patients should seek medical help if any of these symptoms appear.
