What is Athena the goddess of?

Athena is the goddess of wisdom. According to Greek mythology, Athena was motherless and instead came into being by appearing out of Zeus' forehead; however, other legends say she was raised by Triton. Other traits attributed to Athena include courage, war, justice, strength and intelligence.

Athena is the patron goddess of heroes, and she was especially revered by the people of the city of Athens. Legend has it that Athena overcame Poseidon in a challenge to bring an olive tree to Athens. Although both Athens and Athena share the same linguistic roots, scholars are still uncertain which is named after which.
