Students must also complete courses in writing, the humanities and the social sciences to earn an Associate degree.

Courses in lab technician training are standard across most accredited programs and heavily emphasize practical training and biological science. Students must complete all core courses for their major and one or more clinical practicum courses to become a medical technologist.
