A baby moose is called a calf. Calves are born in the spring each year, and can weigh over 30 pounds. Calves grow at a very quick rate and have the capability to outrun a human within a week of birth.
Mothers each give birth to one or two calves in the spring. A baby moose stays with his mother until the beginning of the next mating season. Adult moose grow to be around 6 feet tall at the shoulder, and their average weight is around 1,800 pounds. An adult moose is able to run 35 mph for a short distance.
