How does baking soda help with bladder infections?

Baking soda may help with the symptoms of a bladder infection by neutralizing acids in urine. It doesn't cure an infection, but drinking 1 teaspoon of baking soda with water once or twice a day may help ease an infection or prevent one from starting, according to How Stuff Works.
A mixture of baking soda and water is sometimes used as a home treatment for bladder infections, but consuming too much can be dangerous, says Everyday Health. Between 2000 and 2012, about 5 percent of baking soda poisoning cases in California were people who were self-treating a urinary tract infection.
