Is banamine safe for humans?

Banamine is not safe for human consumption, according to DailyMed, a publication from the National Institutes of Health. The organization warns that cattle must not be slaughtered as human food within four days of the animal's most recent treatment with the drug.

DailyMed explains that banamine is used to treat pain and inflammation in horses and pyrexia associated with bovine respiratory disease and several other conditions in cattle.

Milk taken from cattle during treatment and up to 36 hours after the last treatment should not be used for food, according to DailyMed. The drug should not be used in veal or horses that are intended for food.
