The Barclays Capital Aggregate Bond Index is an index that tracks the overall performance of bonds traded in the United States and does not maintain a symbol, according to About Money. Many exchange-traded funds, known as ETFs, and mutual funds try to emulate the performance of the index.
The index also tracks the performance of government bonds, international dollar-denominated bonds, fixed-income securities, asset-backed securities and mortgage-backed securities, states ETFdb.com. As of 2015, ETFs that try to emulate the performance of the index include The Core Total U.S. Bond Market ETF, the Total Bond Market ETF and the Schwab U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF.
