The Barringer Meteor Crater is located in northern Arizona in the United States. It is one of the most recently formed craters on earth. The Barringer Meteor Crater can be accessed using Interstate Highway 40, exit 233.
The crater was created by the impact of a 100,000-ton iron-rich meteor in the Arizona desert about 50,000 years ago. It is 0.69 miles wide and 200 meters deep. As of June 2014, it is one of about 150 meteor impact craters that have so far been identified globally, according to NASA. The crater is named after D.M. Barringer, the man who discovered it in April 2011.
