How is basketball scored?

In the game of basketball, field goals made anywhere inside the arc are scored as two points. Three points are awarded for shots made beyond the arc, as long as the shooter is completely outside the line. Foul shots from the free throw line are worth a single point.
At the men's college level, the three-point lines sits at 20 feet, 9 inches from the basket. At the pro level, the lines rest 23 feet, 9 inches away and 22 feet from the corners. The free throw line is exactly 15 feet from the front of the backboard at both levels of play.
