The majority of the fighting of the Battle of Bunker Hill took place on Breed's Hill in Massachusetts. Originally, the colonial forces attempted to set up their fortifications on top of Bunker Hill, but they decided Breed's Hill, which sat closer to Boston, was a better option.
The battle, which took place on June 17, 1775, saw the defeat of the colonial forces; however, British took heavy losses, giving the colonial forces the confidence to be able to hold their own against the more seasoned British army. The colonial army withstood to marching attacks before being forced back due to being heavily outnumbered.
