As of April 2015, the Bank of the Ozarks is located throughout the states of Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Alabama with more than 150 locations. The company's headquarters is in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Bank of the Ozarks opened in 1903 as a community bank in Jasper, Arkansas, before expanding to Ozark by 1937. A controlling interest in the bank was purchased in 1979 by an attorney named George Gleason. By 1994, the bank operated five offices throughout Arkansas before embarking on a growth-oriented strategy. The Bank of the Ozarks became a publicly traded company in 1997.
