Is beer acidic or basic?
By Forinfos - 25/01/2026 - 0 comments
Beer is an acidic beverage that has an average pH of approximately 4 to 4.5. Any pH below 7 is considered to be acidic while any pH above 7 is considered to be basic or alkaline.
The pH level in beer is an important factor to consider when brewing beer. Yeast is added to beer during the brewing process to ferment the liquid and cause the alcohol to form. The yeast must be at a pH of around 5.5 to ferment at its optimum level. Yeast contains critical enzymes that facilitate the fermentation process. These enzymes work best at the pH of 5.5. Once the beer has been fermented other ingredients are added to the beer to adjust the pH and flavor of the beer.
