Is saliva acidic or basic?
By Forinfos - 04/06/2025 - 0 comments
Healthy saliva is neutral and non-acidic, with a PH reading of 7.0 or higher. The PH of saliva can change depending on what food and beverages are consumed.
The PH of saliva varies due to the food and beverages that are consumed. Acidic foods can cause the saliva to have a higher PH. Acidic saliva can cause dental problems that can harm the teeth and gums. The roots of teeth can begin to disintegrate if the PH of saliva falls below 7.0 and they can erode or discolor if the PH falls below 5.5, causing cavities. Mouth and saliva PH can be elevated with xylitol, an alkalizing agent.
