It is best to eat a small snack before a workout and something a little more substantial after a workout. The pre-workout snack should mostly be easily digestible carbohydrates that give the body the energy needed to sustain a heavy workout. A fruit smoothie is a great pre-workout snack.
A post-workout meal should consist mainly of protein that will be used to repair the tissue damaged during the workout. It is important that the post-workout meal be consumed within one hour after exercising. An easily digestible and convenient post-workout meal is a whey protein shake. This will immediately replenish the protein stores in the damaged muscle.
