In a 2013 customer satisfaction survey by the American Customers Satisfaction Index, DIRECTV outpaced its cable competitors for the 13th straight year. DIRECTV, with more than 20 million customers, received an overall score of 72 from ASCI.

DIRECTV surpassed AT&T U-Verse and DISH Network, ranking first in seven individual categories, including picture quality, premium channel availability, channel range, easy-to-use menu, perceived quality and website satisfaction. Ironically, AT&T offers in its bundles two different types of digital television services, both AT&T U-Verse and DIRECTV satellite television. AT&T U-Verse, which launched in 2006, claims a revolutionary disconnect from cable television and features integrated digital television, high-speed Internet and next-generation voice services.

In May 2014, AT&T announced its intention to purchase DIRECTV for $48.5 billion.
