How big is Lake Tahoe?

At its widest points Lake Tahoe is 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, with an overall surface area of 191 square miles. The lake's shoreline is around 72 miles in circumference, while its depth measures some 1,645 feet, making it the second deepest lake in the United States.

There are more than 39 trillion gallons of water in Lake Tahoe, which could supply each American with 50 gallons of water a day for over five years. The lake is fed by 63 streams and two hot springs, as well as rainwater. If the lake was ever drained it would take more than 700 years for these water sources to fully replenish it.
