Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, on the border between California and Nevada. The lake is approximately two million years old and contains 37 trillion gallons of water. The name Tahoe comes from the original inhabitants of the area, the Washoe tribe of Native Americans; it is derived from the Washoe phrase "Da ow ga," which means "the lake."
