Lake Erie has an average depth of 62 feet and a maximum depth of 210 feet. The entire lake has a volume of 116 cubic miles, with a surface area of 9,910 square miles and 871 miles of shoreline. Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes.
Lake Erie is bordered by Ontario, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York. It is a glacial lake, with the Detroit River feeding into it and the Niagara River and the Welland Canal feeding out. Additional contributors to Lake Erie include the Grand River, Maumee River, Cuyahoga River, Huron River, Sandusky River and Buffalo River.
