The caldera that is Crater Lake was created when a volcano called Mt. Mazama erupted and collapsed. The water of Crater Lake is relatively pure and is extremely blue.

The deepest lake in the world is Baikal in Siberia at 5,369 feet, according to Geology.com. Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada ranks as the world's 16th deepest, at 1,644 feet. Lake Chelan in Washington state is the world's 20th deepest, at 1,486 feet.
