Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system in terms of surface area, mass and volume. While it is significantly larger than Earth, it has only one-fourth of the density of Earth. The composition of Jupiter is mostly gas, and it likely does not have a solid core.

Jupiter's atmosphere is very violent, with extremely high winds and storms that can form in a matter of minutes. As of 2014, the largest storm on Jupiter, the Red Spot, has been raging since the 1600s and expands and contracts over several thousand miles. While Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, scientists estimate that similar planets in other systems could easily be 15 times as big as Jupiter.
